Mary Kay Elder
Mary Kay is a lifelong resident of Perry County. She has been a long-time active supporter of the county’s Democrat party. Mary Kay has served as Chairman of the Democrat Central Committee since 2004. She has also served as Treasurer and Vice-Chairman of the Central Committee. She began serving as the Vice Precinct Committeeperson for Tell City Precinct #7 nearly thirty years ago and continued in that capacity until becoming the Precinct Committeeperson six years ago. She has been a delegate to the State Democrat Convention several times, and she currently serves as the Democrat representative on the County Election Board. Mary Kay’s husband of 42+ years, Carl, served three terms as a Perry County Councilman during the late ‘70’s through the ‘80’s, and she was heavily involved in his campaign efforts as well as other Democrat candidates during that time.
Mary Kay retired from General Electric in 1997 after 35 years of employment. During that time she worked in numerous positions throughout the plant, including being an Instructor and Union Steward.
Mary Kay and Carl have two grown children, Brian of Tell City, and Carla Moman of Indianapolis. She has three granddaughters, Katie Elder and Abbey and Hannah Moman. She is a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, the Women’s Democrat Association of Perry County, and a lifetime member of the Local Union 805.
