Elder is a board member on the Democrat Women’s Association of Perry County.

Elder is a strong believer in community involvement. She was a charter member of the Perry County Redevelopment Commission. She and her husband Brian serve as a sponsor couple to engaged couples at their church. She serves as the county employees’ liaison for the United Way of Perry County’s annual campaign drive. Debbie is also involved in many of her daughter Katie’s activities, including currently serving as Treasurer of the Tell City Girls Softball League and as member of the Perry County Extension Board.
