Chester "Chet" Mathena
Troy Town Councilman

Chester L. Mathena serves as one of five town councilpersons for the town of Troy, Indiana.  He is currently serving as Troy’s representative on the Indiana 15 Regional Planning Commission and the Perry County Animal Shelter Board of Directors as their Vice-President.  He also serves as a board member of the Perry County Community Foundation and the Perry County Public Defenders.

Since being elected to the Town’s Council, Chet has led efforts towards finding a buyer for the former Old National Bank building, which was donated to the town by the bank and will soon become a medical clinic owned and operated by the Perry County Memorial Hospital.  He has been working with Indiana 15 Regional Planning Commission along with other board members to develop a planning commission for the town and with Mr. Tony Pappano on potential housing grants.  He, the Troy Utilities Board and other board members are also working with Mr. Larry Kleeman and the Lincoln Hill Development Corporation Board in an effort to secure the ‘Christ of the Ohio’ statue for the town of Troy.  Several other projects are also being contemplated.

Chet is a retired member of the former Tell City Jaycees as an exhausted rooster, was a member of the Tell City Classroom Teacher’s Association, The Indiana State Teacher’s Association, The National Education Association for many years and is presently a member of both the local retired teacher’s association and the Indiana State Teacher’s Association.

Chet was born and reared in Cannelton, Indiana.  He graduated from Cannelton High School and Indiana State University earning both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education.  After completing thirty years as an Educator in the Tell City School system, he retired.  Shortly after retirement, he was asked to direct a community service program for the Perry County Circuit Court for the following eight years.

Chet and his wife of forty-five years, Linda (Nash), have three children – Pamela (Metz), Joseph and John.  The Mathena’s reside in Troy where Chet serves as a church trustee at Troy’s Methodist Church.  They have five grandchildren.
