Connie A. Berger
Perry County Auditor
Connie grew up in Perry County, near the St. Marks area and is the oldest
child of Paul and Mary Louise Berger. She graduated in 1979 from Perry Central
High School, and then worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Tell City under
the YACC program for one year. After this, she attended Owensboro Junior
College of Business and graduated in 1981 with a Certificate in Business
Administration Accounting. While in college she worked for Holt Manufacturing
Co. After graduating from college she worked for Holiday Village in Santa
Claus.
In March 1982 Connie was hired to work part time in the Perry County Auditor’s Office. Less than a year later, she was hired as a full time deputy. At the present time she is the Chief Deputy Auditor, a position she has held since 1991.
Connie is a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church, the Perry County 4-H Council, MuGamma Sorority of Beta Sigma Phi and TOPS. She was a member of the 1990-2000 Perry County Leadership Class. She also has taken part in the United Way Day of Caring. She has attended, and continues to attend Auditor’s Conferences conducted by the Indiana State Board of Accounts, and other meetings conducted by the state to learn about the continuing changes affecting the Auditor’s office.
Connie says, “This is my first attempt to run for public office. I feel the 23 years of experience I have working in the Auditor’s office gives me the necessary knowledge to take on the challenging task ahead.” The Auditor’s office is responsible for the payment of county claims, county payroll administration, distribution of county tax monies, tax bill preparation and transfer of real estate, County GIS mapping system along with preparing and preserving minutes of all County Commissioners and County Council meetings.
“I feel that the experience I have gained while working in the Auditor’ office has given me the knowledge and qualifications to serve as Perry County Auditor. With the help of a dedicated, hard-working staff, I feel that the Auditor’s office has been run in a professional manner and has provided fair and friendly service to the citizens of Perry County, and I pledge to continue that tradition.”
